Sidebar
Pages with Settings → Show sidebar checked will display a sidebar. If this page is an action page, the sidebar will contain the action form. Else it will contain the default sidebar.
Signup Form
If your site has a Pages → Defaults → Primary signup page assigned, the sidebar will include a signup form.
- The sidebar signup form’s headline will populate from the Site settings → Headline field, unless that field is blank. In that case, it will be populated by your site’s primary signup page’s Settings → Headline field.
- The sidebar signup form’s subheadline will populate from the Site settings → Subheadline field, unless that field is blank. In that case, it will be populated by your site’s primary signup page’s Settings → Social media → Excerpt for Facebook, search engines field.
Only read this if you're wondering why a page has a big empty space where the sidebar should be (the vast majority of people should ignore this):
If your site does not have a primary signup page, the sidebar signup form will not appear and will be replaced by a bigger Facebook or Twitter widget, assuming your nation is connected to Facebook or Twitter. If your site
- is not connected to Facebook or Twitter and
- doesn't have a primary signup page and
- the Supporter nav → Reorder links is empty and
- the page is not tagged layout sibling menu
there will simply be a big white space as your sidebar when a user is not logged in. In this case, it’s best to uncheck that page’s Settings → Show sidebar checkbox.
Supporter Nav (a.k.a. Sidebar Nav)
- By checking a page's Settings → Include in supporter nav, you are including that page in a sidebar button menu.
- You can find all these pages and reorder them in Supporter nav → Reorder links.
NOTE: The Supporter nav → Buttons don't have anything to do with this sidebar menu.
NOTE: This will be overridden by the normal Sibling Menu (below).
Sibling Menu
To display a sidebar menu of all a page's published siblings (which simply means they are subpages of the same parent page), add layout sibling menu to the Settings → Tags to the parent page.
NOTE: This will override the normal Supporter nav.
